K & J's Black Belt Academy has helped my family in so many ways. My stepson died at the tender age of 21 last year, this tragedy greatly affected my 7 year old son. We enrolled him into Tae-Kwon-Do to try to improve his self-esteem and find a positive outlet for his emotions. The instructors, Mr. Straw and Mr. Durant, have helped to turn my son around into a happier, healthier, more confident child. I see it in his schoolwork and in his face. Besides being wonderful instructors, these two men truly care for their students and have become friends to my family and myself. I decided to enroll, not for self confidence, but to lose weight. Along with a low fat diet, I lose 30 pounds in 4 months! The support I have gotten from the school, the members and their families have made me feel like a new person. My wife and I know Kevin and Lisa Durant and when they decided to open K & J's, we knew it would be a great place for our son to learn karate as well as help develop strong values. Since starting the program a few months ago, our son has progressed nicely. He is currently in the Tiny Tigers program and loves it! It seems like he is asking me every day if/when we are going to karate. He is kind of shy, so I have been amazed at how much this activity has helped him become more social and self-confident. He really likes the personal attention that is given at K & J's. Kevin and his staff are excellent with all of the kids and go out to the way to make everyone feel at home. It is really kind of a family atmosphere once you start attending regularly. One advantage I have noticed over other studios is they have a bleacher section setup by the floor, so parents can sit and watch their kids during their karate session.
